cbc marketplace 'investigation' into Homeopathy

Hello,

Despite Marketplace's attempt at discrediting Homeopathy, there is proof that people are using it and in strong support of their freedom of choice to do so.

111 comments so far and it hasn't even aired yet,  the majority of which are overwhelmingly positive.

I urge everyone, if you haven't already, to write a letter to your known
supporters, asking them to contribute their stories. In addition, please lodge a
complaint with CBC. ( if you scroll down to the bottom of the page, " contact
us" and then " complaint")

Please add your comment to their blog and remember to watch the show tonight at 8pm on CBC (Friday, January 14th)

Valid Evidence for Homeopathy

Response to CBC Marketplace's version of an investigation on Homeopathy:

1. the fact that the skeptics on the show who took large quantities of
remedies with no effect have no idea How To Do a Proving. The skeptics on
the show are feeling no effects from the remedies because they're doing it
all wrong - you want to do a proving, you've got to follow the proper
procedure! Include a summary of the true protocol for testing the effects
of homeopathic remedies, which was first created by Samuel Hahnemann in the
late 1700s and has been being refined ever since. Dare the skeptics to sign
up as provers and add link to where they can.

2. the fact that the Centre for Inquiry which is interviewed by CBC as it
sought to 'get the scientific viewpoint' is a group of armchair cranks, for
example: Congratulations, you've been hoodwinked by a Media Skeptic
organization and have given them undeserved credibility as a representative
for "science" when in fact they're merely representative of Scientism:
http://www.slingshotpublications.com/dwarfs01.pdf<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?llr=pgn8n8cab&et=1104241728149&s=346&e=001W6oPHEq0M6Or43rdmPUHdBG6S7QHTQJPOF62hT6_X5upeMwZX33hXMANcaVQS0VLtDqu52cyZEPNfZxXZi1LXg6YnRZC6QzXJXmBzzZwmkJlLlvfh_PoUAZIFkAHHiTLfCZqM2Dmv3vJMsVQyXT3uw==>

Look up their leader Justin Trottier -he is a strange guy, to say the least.

3. the fact that most people who have negative things to say about
Homeopathy have spent about 5 minutes "studying" it. Instead, endorse a
patient's right to choose whatever form of medical treatment they wish.
There is considerable dispute as to the validity and effectiveness of
chemotherapy and radiation, but the skeptics aren't calling that voodoo...

4. You might want to mention George Vithoulkas' challenge to the charlatan
magician The Amazing Randi who offered a million dollars to anyone who could
prove Homeopathy worked. George was ready and then Randi finked out... He
reneged! See link with the story:

5. the fact that doctors don't know how surgical anaesthesia works... so
should we stop doing it? The workings of aspirin were a mystery for the
longest time until someone figured it out in 1971, but that did not stop
doctors from prescribing it for over 72 years *because it works.* ( we need
to make the point that not knowing how a treatment works is actually no
excuse, ethically, for not using it, when you know that it does work.)

6. the fact that in conventional medical compendiums, under each medication
there is a heading for "method of action". For most drugs the answer is
UKNOWN. Some examples include:

All they have about how general anaesthetics work is theories:

7. the fact that thousands of people die every year from conventional
medicine and drugs. The Institute of Medicine reports (entitled FIRST DO NO
HARM and CROSSING THE QUALITY CHASM) are both very well publicized and out
there in the public eye and state that

- AT LEAST 100K people per year DIE under allopathic care.
- Another 15 million people per year are HARMED (that's just what is
actually formally reported).
- 100K people die of hospital-associated infections (HAI's is the
acronym). This stuff is very real and these are actually conservative
numbers since these are only what are reported. Imagine all those (like
vaccine injury) that are NOT reported....

You can use this data and hang your hat on these statistics because they are
all over the medical world. I wish the stats were more in the public eye.
Google Peter Pronovost, MD, Ph.D (John Hopkins patient safety hotshot who is
the champion of reducing harm and error) and the IHI...Institute for
Healthcare Improvement, Inst. of Medicine, the National Quality Forum, the
National Patient Safety Foundation (another good site) to verify and get
some good high potency verbiage for your response campaign.

These are just some of the examples of ideas for comments that our group has
submitted. Please look at the trailer and make up your own mind But Just Do
It.

Here is an email from William Alderson, chair of Homeopathy: Medicine for
the 21st Century, an advocacy group in the UK. He has been through the mill
there and has given us permission to pass along this advice for your use.
Thank you William!

"...In the UK the response to the attacks on homeopathy was based on just
putting the positive case for homeopathy and not attacking the opponents,
All this did was give the public the idea that there were two opposing
views, and that they were equally valid. The press support for the
opposition, of course, steadily tips the balance away from homeopaths.

In Israel the response was to attack the opponents with evidence which
contradicted what they were saying. Again this gave the public the idea that
there were two opposing views, and that they were equally valid, except that
the homeopaths were aggressive. The press support for the opposition, of
course, steadily tips the balance away from homeopaths.

The solution, on which H:MC21's approach has always been based, is to attack
the opposition *by using their own statements*. This is based on the
position that *the foundations of the attacks are not built on science, so
there will always be a mistake or a contradiction in what they say. *Against
this attack there is no defence, and it

seriously undermines their credibility and limits the ability of the press
to attack homeopathy.

*Trick or Treatment?* is available in Canada, I am sure, and H:MC21's
*Halloween
Science* has all the ammunition you need to take apart any argument used in
that book in its own terms.

The Commons Science and Technology Committee*Evidence Check: Homeopathy* has
also been given this treatment.

An article summarising events around that report was published on the
Counterfire website (not a homeopathic one). Our advertisement in the *New
Statesman* gathers together key points too. Everything is available free
from our website, and you are welcome to use it." (the website is

My complaint letter to CBC

Hello CBC,

I am in shock that CBC can have such blatantly biased so-called journalism. Your trailer on the show about Homeopathy has already claimed that Naturopaths do Chiropractic work. I believe neither of their associations will be happy to see their modality misrepresented. Obviously, people are passionate about their right to choose Homeopathy if they have found that it works for them. This trailer for the Marketplace episode is riddled with outright falsities portrayed as fact.
1. The study to find out what is in Homeopathic Remedies has never been done before in Canada (CBC is not the first to conduct this test).
2. That Homeopathic Scientific Studies are all self published or observational with no control group.
3. That Doctors explain the success that people find with Homeopathy with the placebo effect.
4. That Naturopaths do Chiropractic work.

You are insulting your very own consumers. I used to have high regard for CBC. I am incredibly disappointed. I know that the supporters of Homeopathy are (or used to be) supporters of CBC. We are a forward-thinking, politically aware, higher educated populace.

This show is doing an overall disservice to CBC's reputation.
Please respond to my concerns about how these inaccuracies were able to get past the CBC editors. I look forward to your explanation of what will be done to ensure that this kind of biased 'reporting' will not occur in the future.

Sincerely,
Elena Cecchetto DCH, CCH, RSHom(NA)

Comments from CBC Marketplace show on Homeopathy

Animals and children have no idea that the tiny white granule they have just been given is supposed to cure their ailment - yet we have some of the best results from animals and children.

...care to explain that one away with the placebo effect?

Comments from CBC Marketplace show on Homeopathy

If CBC would like to understand Homeopathy, an empirical science with a long and rich history, they should consult Homeopaths with education and expertise in this area. Without this input this is surely a biased, unbalanced report.

Comments from Marketplace show on Homeopathy

Just from this advance advertising, it sounds like Erica Johnson and the Marketplace researchers have approached the subject of homeopathy with a foregone conclusion - " it's a scam".

There is, in fact, plenty of scientific proof that homeopathy works, but it seems they didn't even bother to look at it.

Instead, they took the word of the " skeptics" ( i.e. a group of pharmaceutically - funded cyber- bullies, who are aggressively spreading lies about homeopathy).

When will Marketplace be doing its exposé of them?

Too bad Marketplace did not, instead, approach the subject with an open mind, and interview the ( unpaid ) homeopathic research scientists, the hard - working ( and poorly paid) homeopathic practitioners, and some of the thousands of delighted patients whose lives have been transformed and even saved by this gentle, simple treatment.

Homeopathy for Eczema

I have experience using homeopathy for my eczema and have had amazing
results. It inspired me to become a Homeopath and now I have had successes
in treating eczema. Children respond really well and quickly to
homeopathic remedies for eczema. Stop the problem before it diverges into
more progressive problems such as asthma or other related chronic
diseases.

The medical community has discovered there are specific patterns of
diseases. As a Homeopath, the way I see it is that if you start as a child
with a susceptibility to having skin issues such as eczema that there is a
likelihood that you will develop other related diseases such as asthma or
chronic bronchitis later in life. This only happens if the eczema is not
appropriately healed in a way that it won't come back. Unfortunately,
convention medicine's answer to eczema is cortisone which works by
suppressing the natural immune response of your body.

When your system is trying to move through a problem, you may never know
exactly what the core problem is. What we do know is that your body is
designed to attempt to heal itself of the eczema or other skin problem.
This is what symptoms are. Symptoms like a skin rash response is the
expression that your body is giving to attempt to adjust through a
problem. Some people say that eczema is related to liver problems, some
say its an allergy, some say its a lack of certain important
metals/elements in your body. Whichever it may be for you, homeopathy can
make sure that its is dealt with at the core level of where the problem
is. This way, there is a permanence to the results and you won't have to
rely on specific creams, drugs, supplements or elimination of certain
foods in your diet or exposure to certain substances.

Homeopathy is a very gentle and natural approach for eczema that supports
your own body to move forward in the direction that it is attempting to
accomplish towards healing itself.

Eczema Homeopathy - Give it a try as a good holistic option for eczema to
help you find permanent results for eczema and other skin problems.

More evidence that homeopathy works!

Homeopathy, Mastitis and Cows
More evidence that homeopathy works! You can find a summary of the evidence, and the reference at

http://www.homeopathy-ich.org

In brief, this is an EU funded research project that found that homeopathy protects cows against potential udder infection. Over 100 cows in Switzerland took part in the trial, and results showed that homeopathy gave 9-fold better protection compared to the control groups.

The homeopathy denialists, and homeophobes will undoubtedly claim two things. First, the cows knew they were being treated, so it was just placebo effect! And/or that the quality of the research was not good enough! But then, who cares about what they think. This is just further proof of the power of homeopathy, and so is welcome additional evidence.
