Systemic Contact Dermatitis from Herbal and Homeopathic Preparations Used for Herpes Virus Treatment.

Systemic Contact Dermatitis from Herbal and Homeopathic Preparations Used for Herpes Virus Treatment.

Abstract:

Systemic contact dermatitis may occur in contact-sensitized individuals when they are exposed to haptens orally, transcutaneously, intravenously or by inhalation. We report the case of a woman developing a diffuse skin eruption after the topical use of Rhus toxicodendron alcoholic extract and the oral introduction of a homeopathic preparation of the same substance for herpes treatment. An open test, performed with the Rhus toxicodendron tincture, showed an erythemato-oedematous response at 48 h and vesicular reaction at 96 h that was still present after 7 days. Patch test with 65% ethyl alcohol gave negative results. The open test performed, as control, in eight healthy informed subjects revealed negative responses to Rhus tincture application. The result is interesting because in Italy, allergic contact dermatitis to Rhus is uncommon and this case increases the understanding of the pathogenetic mechanism leading to systemic contact dermatitis development. Abstract:

Over a fifteen-year period, 184 children between ages two months and twelve years were given potentized Polio, trivalent Diphtheria, Pertussis and Tetanus [DPT], and Measles, Mumps and Rubella [MMR] vaccines. None of the children developed those diseases over the course of the study. There was one episode of a minor skin eruption. If one adds this information to the results of the study by Isaac Golden on 1305 children over thirteen years, almost 1,500 children receiving homeopathic immunization obtained excellent results.

Abstract:

Background: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a massive global problem. An estimated 10 million people die annually from antibiotic resistant infections. The costs are projected to rise to $100 trillion a year by 2050. Dr Margaret Chan, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) has said 'We are approaching a time when things as common as a strep throat or a child's scratched knee could once again kill'. The WHO takes AMR very seriously and has published data on AMR worldwide. Methods : I will review current strategies for tackling AMR. The Independent Review on AMR published in May 2016 made several recommendations. These include a global public awareness campaign, improved surveillance and more rapid diagnostic methods. The British Government has also published a strategy to tackle AMR. These recommendations will only slow, not reverse the spread of antibiotic resistance, unless new antibiotics are discovered. It is several decades since a new class of antibiotics was discovered. Neither of these strategies recommend exploration of innovative integrated medicine approaches. Results: I will present a head-to-head randomised clinical trial of an Echinacea preparation against oseltamivir, which has lessons for homeopathy research. I will discuss randomised controlled trials of homeopathy for infectious respiratory tract conditions and a health technology assessment of homeopathy. I will review the evidence from clinical effectiveness studies of homeopathy in this domain, including the large-scale French EPI-3 study and the two multinational IIPCOS studies. These consistently indicate that use of homeopathy is associated with much reduced use of antibiotics. Conclusion: Homeopathy should be part of an integrated strategy for tackling AMR. The homeopathic approach is not about killing micro-organisms; it seeks to promote patient resistance to infection, modulate innate immunity, and cultivate a healthy microbiome.

Homeopathic treatment as an alternative prophylactic to minimize bacterial infection and prevent neonatal diarrhea in calves.

Homeopathic treatment as an alternative prophylactic to minimize bacterial infection and prevent neonatal diarrhea in calves.

Abstract:

Bovine neonatal diarrhea is common due low immunity in newborn calves, poor management (or absence) of sanitary barriers, and other factors. Newborn calves with diarrhea in the first days of life suffer failure to thrive and may die if left untreated. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether prophylactic administration of a homeopathic product (Dia 100 ® ) can control bovine neonatal diarrhea in calves born on a farm with substantial sanitary challenges. We counted total bacteria and protozoan parasites in fecal samples. We measured serum glucose, total protein, globulin, albumin, cholesterol and triglycerides on days 1, 7 and 14 of life. Twenty newborn calves were maintained in individual stalls, and were divided in two groups: ten untreated animals (control) and ten animals treated with Dia 100 ® . Fecal consistency was evaluated daily. We diagnosed diarrhea in five animals in the treated group, and in all animals from the control group. Infections with Escherichia coli and Giardia duodenalis were identified as the responsible organisms. The E. coli count was low in the treatment group on day 7 of life compared with the control group. Antibiotics were given to eight animals in the control group, and to two animals in the treatment group. On day of life 7, serum levels of total protein and globulins were higher in the control group, but were lower on day 14. Serum levels of glucose and triglycerides were greater in treated animals on days 7 and 14, suggesting that the homeopathic product contributes to improvement of intestinal health and absorption and nutrients. We conclude that Dia 100 ® controls diarrhea with 50% of efficacy, and reduces antibiotic utilization. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Genetically Engineered Ascorbic acid-deficient Live Mutants of Leishmania donovani induce long lasting Protective Immunity against Visceral Leishmaniasis.

Anand, S., & Madhubala, R. (2015). Genetically Engineered Ascorbic acid-deficient Live Mutants of Leishmania donovani induce long lasting Protective Immunity against Visceral Leishmaniasis. Scientific Reports, 10706. https://doi.org/10.1038/srep10706

ABSTRACT:Visceral leishmaniasis caused by Leishmania donovani is the most severe systemic form of the disease. There are still no vaccines available for humans and there are limitations associated with the current therapeutic regimens for leishmaniasis. Recently, we reported functional importance of Arabino-1, 4-lactone oxidase (ALO) enzyme from L. donovani involved in ascorbate biosynthesis pathway. In this study, we have shown that ΔALO parasites do not affect the ability of null mutants to invade visceral organs but severely impair parasite persistence beyond 16 week in BALB/c mice and hence are safe as an immunogen. Both short term (5 week) and long term (20 week) immunization with ΔALO parasites conferred sustained protection against virulent challenge in BALB/c mice, activated splenocytes and resulted in induction of pro-inflammatory cytokine response. Protection in immunized mice after challenge correlated with the stimulation of IFN-γ producing CD4+ and CD8+ T cells. Antigen-mediated cell immunity correlated with robust nitrite and superoxide generation, macrophage-derived oxidants critical in controlling Leishmania infection. Our data shows that live attenuated ΔALO parasites are safe, induce protective immunity and can provide sustained protection against Leishmania donovani. We further conclude that the parasites attenuated in their anti-oxidative defence mechanism can be exploited as vaccine candidates.

Addition of ascorbic acid solution to stored murine red blood cells increases posttransfusion recovery and decreases microparticles and alloimmunization.

Stowell, S. R., Smith, N. H., Zimring, J. C., Fu, X., Palmer, A. F., Fontes, J., … Yazer, M. H. (2013). Addition of ascorbic acid solution to stored murine red blood cells increases posttransfusion recovery and decreases microparticles and alloimmunization. Transfusion, 53(10), 2248–2257. https://doi.org/10.1111/trf.12106

ABSTRACT: Background The storage of red blood cells ( RBCs) results in numerous changes, which over time result in decreased recovery of transfused RBCs. In addition (at least in animal models), stored RBCs can be more immunogenic and also stimulate the systemic release of inflammatory cytokines in transfusion recipients. One component of the RBC storage lesion is the accumulation of oxidative damage. We tested the hypothesis that adding a chemical antioxidant (ascorbic acid) to stored RBCs would improve the quality of the stored RBCs. Study Design and Methods RBCs were harvested from FVB. HOD mice that express an RBC-specific model transgene ( HOD) and stored for 14 days with either ascorbic acid in saline or saline alone. Twenty-four-hour posttransfusion recovery of RBCs was tracked by flow cytometry. Alloimmunization was monitored by flow cytometry crossmatch. Cytokines were monitored by multiplex bead arrays. Results RBCs stored under standard conditions had decreased 24-hour posttransfusion recovery and increased induction of both alloantibodies and interleukin ( IL)-6 and monocyte chemoattractant protein ( MCP)-1 secretion in the mouse recipients. Addition of ascorbic acid from 3.6 to 10.8 mmol/ L resulted in a significant decrease in microparticle formation, an improved RBC 24-hour posttransfusion recovery (p < 0.01), and a decrease in recipient alloimmunization (p = 0.0001). Induction of MCP-1 and IL-6 secretion was not decreased by ascorbic acid. Conclusions These data indicate that the addition of ascorbic acid solution to RBCs during storage has a beneficial effect on recovery and immunogenicity of RBCs, but not cytokine induction. The addition of ascorbic acid (or other antioxidants) to human RBCs may have beneficial effects. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Vitamin C supplementation improved the efficacy of foot-and-mouth disease vaccine.

Vitamin C supplementation improved the efficacy of foot-and-mouth disease vaccine

Vitamin C (VC) is an essential micronutrient and plays important roles in various biological processes including immune responses. Vaccination can stimulate immune responses effectively for prevention of virual infection. Adequate VC intake is required for the immune system to function efficiently. In this study, we evaluated the biological function of VC on immune response to inactivated foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) vaccine. The C57BL/6 mice were injected intraperitoneally with different dose of VC daily following immunization with inactivated FMD vaccine. The results showed high dose of VC supplementation significantly increased IgG level. Similarly, high dose of VC supplementation enhanced Th2 and Th17 cellular immune responses and also increased MHCII expression on dendritic cells. Taken together, these data indicate that high dose of VC supplementation can modulate Th2 and Th17 cellular immune responses to inactivated FMD vaccine and manifest the necessity for effective vaccination.

Five Reasons to NOT get the Flu Vaccine

Five Reasons to NOT get the Flu Vaccine by Elena Cecchetto

INGREDIENTS

1. Various chemicals: Formaldehyde, beta-propiolactonethimerosol, sodium taurodeoxycholate, neomycin sulfate, polymyxin B, sodium deoxycholate, polysorbate 80 (Tween 80), hydrocortisone, gentamicin sulfate, ovalbumin, nonylphenol ethoxylate, polymyxin, neomycin, polysorbate 80, octylphenol ethoxylate (Triton X-100), sodium phosphate, gelatin, ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA), monosodium glutamate, hydrolyzed porcine gelatin, sucrose, gentamicin sulfate.1

2. Eggs: If you are allergic to eggs, or have asthma, the flu and yellow fever vaccines might be ones to be wary of. You might want to ask for a low-egg vaccine.2

3. Thimerosol (Mercury): This ingredient may or may not have been linked to autism.3

SIDE EFFECTS

Would febrile seizure4, narcolepsy5, Asthma2, Guillain-Barré syndrome6, or fetal toxicity7 be worse than the flu? These are some of the side effects considered to be linked to flu vaccines.

Or the flu itself? A study published in 2011 made an association about increased likelihood of coming down with the flu after having received the vaccine.8

OTHER RESOURCES

People are turning to natural sources Vitamin D, Vitamin C, Oregano Oil, turmeric, echinacea, reishi mushrooms and so on to strengthen their immune systems. During the 1918 flu epidemic, the Homeopathic Physicians demonstrated a 1.05% mortality rate while orthodox medicine saw approximately a 30% death rate9.

PREVENTATIVE MEASURES

The Center for Disease control says that the flu vaccine is the best way to control influenza10. What about getting plenty of rest, exercise, proper nutrition, drinking plenty of fluids and regular hand washing.

Consider other medical authorities’ proactive measures. Europe's drugs regulator has ruled Pandemrix (the swine flu vaccine) should no longer be used in people aged under twenty5. Australia no longer recommends the annual flu shot for children under five years old11.

CHOICE

Everybody is different. Use your right to choose. Or in other words, “educate before you vaccinate”. Consider that our immune system is a highly refined and intellectual system that works naturally and effectively by way of protection through our mucous membranes (skin, mouth, ears) not by way of intramuscular injection.
