Abnormal measles-mumps-rubella antibodies and CNS autoimmunity in children with autism.

J Biomed Sci. 2002 Jul-Aug;9(4):359-64. Affiliation Abstract

Autoimmunity to the central nervous system (CNS), especially to myelin basic protein (MBP), may play a causal role in autism, a neurodevelopmental disorder. Because many autistic children harbor elevated levels of measles antibodies, we conducted a serological study of measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) and MBP autoantibodies. Using serum samples of 125 autistic children and 92 control children, antibodies were assayed by ELISA or immunoblotting methods. ELISA analysis showed a significant increase in the level of MMR antibodies in autistic children. Immunoblotting analysis revealed the presence of an unusual MMR antibody in 75 of 125 (60%) autistic sera but not in control sera. This antibody specifically detected a protein of 73-75 kD of MMR. This protein band, as analyzed with monoclonal antibodies, was immunopositive for measles hemagglutinin (HA) protein but not for measles nucleoprotein and rubella or mumps viral proteins. Thus the MMR antibody in autistic sera detected measles HA protein, which is unique to the measles subunit of the vaccine. Furthermore, over 90% of MMR antibody-positive autistic sera were also positive for MBP autoantibodies, suggesting a strong association between MMR and CNS autoimmunity in autism. Stemming from this evidence, we suggest that an inappropriate antibody response to MMR, specifically the measles component thereof, might be related to pathogenesis of autism. Reducing healthcare costs with homeopathy and anthroposophic medicine: a literature review

Reducing healthcare costs with homeopathy and anthroposophic medicine: a literature reviewAbstract: Background: With an ageing European population and the associated rise in chronic diseases pressuring European health systems, an investigation into the appropriateness, cost-effectiveness and efficacy of various medical systems is needed. ECHAMP carried out a literature review on cost-effectiveness of homeopathy and anthroposophic medicine in order to show how homeopathy and anthroposophic medicine can contribute to a sustainable health system. Methods: An extensive search was carried out in the electronic databases of Medline (Pubmed), Google Scholar and Science Direct. The articles were analysed on direct, indirect and intangible cost reductions. Results: Eight studies showed remarkable direct costs savings by the use of homeopathy while seven studies indicated direct cost reductions with the treatment of anthroposophic medicine. One study showed significant direct cost savings for both homeopathy and anthroposophic medicine. None of the studies performed an exact cost calculation for the indirect cost savings of homeopathy whereas only one study calculated the indirect cost savings due to anthroposophic medicine. The latter estimated that indirect cost savings ranged between 41.5 and 113.1 euros per patient per day. Almost all studies for both homeopathy and anthroposophic medicine showed an increase in Quality of Life and reductions in disease severity. Conclusion: Both homeopathy and anthroposophic medicine can contribute to sustainable health systems by reducing direct, indirect and intangible healthcare costs.

Using Homeopathy for Treating Symptoms of Anxiety

A lot of people in the United States suffer from anxiety disorders. One in eight children in the country are said to be affected by it. Depression cases are also high, with six percent of the total US population recorded to have been suffering from the condition.

To treat people with anxiety disorders, doctors prescribe the combination of medication and psychotherapy. But not everyone can tolerate the antidepressants and instead they undergo alternative therapies such as yoga, herbs, dietary changes, and homeopathy.

Homeopathy has been claimed to be effective in treating several mental illnesses but there are still some people questioning its safety because some of the remedies have ingredients that are not approved by the FDA.

There are some homeopathy remedies that contain substances that might interact with other medications or high concentrations of toxic materials. It is best to inform a doctor if one is planning to go through a homeopathic treatment.

According to a study that looked into the use of homeopathy to cure anxiety disorders, the remedies didn’t do well. They also looked into the use of homeopathy to treat depression and stated that they can’t make a conclusion on the effectiveness of the treatment.

It has been noted that the important part of the homeopathy treatment is the initial interview where the patient talks about one’s story, talk about the struggles to be better, and what treatments were already tried in the past. Experts have said that the positive response patients got from homeopathy treatment might come from this part of the process, which is similar to talk therapy.

When suffering from anxiety or depression, it is best to talk to the therapist or doctor. Homeopathy options might not be the best one available. There are other options that don’t involve medication, such as helping out at the local library or volunteering at the local shelter.

Adaptive network nanomedicine: an integrated model for homeopathic medicine.

Adaptive network nanomedicine: an integrated model for homeopathic medicine.

Abstract

This paper presents an evidence-based model for the nature and mode of action of homeopathic remedies. Recent studies reveal that homeopathic remedies contain nanoparticles (NPs) of source materials formed by "top-down" mechanical grinding in lactose and/or succussion (forceful agitation) in ethanolic solutions. Silica nanostructures formed during succussions in glass and/or biosynthesized by specific plant extract tinctures also may acquire and convey epitaxial information from remedy source materials into higher potencies. NPs have enhanced bioavailability, adsorptive capabilities, adjuvant reactivity, electromagnetic and quantum properties compared with their bulk forms. NPs induce adaptive changes in the organism at nontoxic doses (hormesis), serving as salient, low level danger signals to the biological stress response network. Activation of stress response effectors, including heat shock proteins, inflammasomes, cytokines and neuroendocrine pathways, initiate beneficial compensatory reactions across the interconnected networks of the organism as a complex adaptive system. Homeopathic remedies act by stimulating hormetic adaptive rather than conventional pharmacological effects. Updating terminology from "homeopathy" to "adaptive network nanomedicine" reflects the integration of this historical but controversial medical system with modern scientific findings.

Dr. Bhatia – Please share with us the most significant findings of your research?

Dr. Isaac – There is so much that could be said, but I would say that the three most significant findings are:

(1)   The consistency of measures of the effectiveness of HP over 200 years, both for long-term and short-term protection – at around 90%.  This is a very strong figure, and very consistent with vaccine efficacy. My own data was collected from 1986 to 2004, and vetted by a Professor of Medicine and a medical epidemiologist during my Swinburne research. So it means we can offer people a safe alternative with a demonstrated effectiveness.

(2)   Evaluation of the overall safety of long-term HP was an important new aspect of my Doctoral research at Swinburne University from 2000 to 2004, and the results were excellent. Some of my colleagues had quite reasonably questioned whether the use of my long-term program could cause any weakening of the Vital Force over time, and the data unambiguously said “no” to that question. It further showed that my long-term HP program was associated with an improvement in general well being– a result that pleased, but also surprised me to some extent.

(3)   How damaging vaccination is over the long-term. Once again, the results are unambiguous, and are fully consistent with the very few long-term studies of the impact of vaccination on overall wellness. The fact that the orthodox community has done so little genuine research into long-term safety of vaccination is to their eternal discredit.

The Use of Nosodes in Homeopathy

Summary sheet: Nosodes
July 2007
office@echamp.be
www.echamp.org
The Use of Nosodes in Homeopathy
‘Nosodes’ is the term used for a specific group of remedies widely used in homeopathic
prescribing. They have been an essential part of the European homeopathic tradition for
over two hundred years. Results from clinical trials and data collection in homeopathic
practice show a long track record of safety for these products.
Typically, homeopathic medicinal products originate from plants, animals, organic and
inorganic substances. The first step in the pr
eparation of a homeopathic medicine is the
preparation of the ‘mother tincture’, its most co
ncentrated liquid form
. The second step is
a process of systematic serial dilution and ‘succussion’ (vigorous shaking with impact)
known as ‘potentisation’. The more physically
dilute the solution, the higher the potency.
Nosodes are made from disease products of human or animal origin, or from pathogens or
from products derived from the decomposition of animal organs, cultured micro-organisms
or body fluids containing pathogens or pathol
ogical agents. They are prepared according to
standard methods of manufacture for homeopathic medicinal products. The
Pharmacopoeias in current use include additional rules to produce safe, non-infectious
starting material by different sterilisation me
thods. The subsequent serial dilution adds
further safety and renders them as safe as other homeopathic remedies. Nosodes are
manufactured and prescribed in higher
potencies (i.e more dilute) only.
The track record of safety of these products is reinforced by clear and regulated
manufacturing processes, ensuring that they are safe and meet the EU definition of a
homeopathic product: ‘any medicinal product prepared ... in accordance with a
homeopathic manufacturing procedure describe
d by the European Pharmacopoeia or, in
the absence thereof, by the pharmacopoeias
currently used officially in the Member
States’.
Nosodes are prescribed by homeopathic doct
ors, practitioners and veterinarians world-
wide for the treatment of acute as well as
chronic diseases. Remedies made from the
supposed causative agents or products of a disease are usually prescribed to a patient
suffering from that same disease. They may be used to treat residual problems when an
illness has been overcome in earlier life and to reduce hereditary problems. This school of
homeopathy is known as Isopathy.
In 2005, a survey of homeopathic doctors found that 95% considered nosodes to be
important in their clinical practice. Similarly a 2005 study reported that nosodes had been
of vital importance for successful homeopathic treatment of chronic ailments in an
average of 33% of patient cases. Nosodes also play an essential role in the successful
homeopathic treatment of farm livestock.
Nosodes have a clear place in the European regulatory context. For patients, practitioners
and professional organisations, they will contin
ue to play an essential role in homeopathic
treatment.

Historical data on Homeopathic treatment on flu epidemics: Taken from National Center of Homeopathy:

Perhaps the most recent use of homeopathy in a major epidemic was during the Influenza Pandemic of 1918. The Journal of the American Institute for Homeopathy, May, 1921, had a long article about the use of homeopathy in the flu epidemic. Dr. T A McCann, from Dayton, Ohio reported that 24,000 cases of flu treated allopathically had a mortality rate of 28.2% while 26,000 cases of flu treated homeopathically had a mortality rate of 1.05%. This last figure was supported by Dean W.A. Pearson of Philadelphia (Hahnemann College) who collected 26,795 cases of flu treated with homeopathy with the above result.

The most common remedy used was Gelsemium, with occasional cases needing Bryonia and Eupatorium reported. Dr. Herbert A. Roberts from Derby, CT, said that 30 physicians in Connecticut responded to his request for data. They reported 6,602 cases with 55 deaths, which is less than 1%. Dr. Roberts was working as a physician on a troop ship during WWI. He had 81 cases of flu on the way over to Europe. He reported, “All recovered and were landed. Every man received homeopathic treatment. One ship lost 31 on the way.”

Please be aware that a natural approach exists to flu prevention and treatment. Here are some ideas for boosting your immune system and avoiding some common problems associated with fall/winter illness:

DIET:
Avoid mucous producing foods (sinusitis, asthma, flu, bronchitis, ear infections, etc.), such as milk and cheese, beef and pork, wheat, bananas, refined sugar and corn oil. Use more of beans, peas, chicken(dark part), rye, spelt, buckwheat millet, apples, pears, molasses, olive oil, sesame oil, and spices (turmeric, cumin and garlic). Apples, pears and raw vegetables actually help to reduce mucus.

VITAMINS:
Vitamin C helps stimulate your natural killer cells that mop us viruses. Vitamin A also has “anti-viral” activity and Zinc has a reputation for healing “colds”. Making and drinking a pitcher of freshly juiced vegetable and/or fruit juice every day gives you the antioxidants you need to help boost your immune system. Taking large doses of Vitamin C (up to 10,000mg daily, as your body tolerates) can boost the immune system.

SUPPLEMENTS:
Echinacea - take a dose or two when you feel that cold or flu just coming on. Add Goldenseal to it if the mucous turns from clear to yellow. Rosemarin supplements, Echinacea angustifolia tincture (5 drops in water, 3 times daily during infection, or 1 time daily for up to 2 weeks to help boost immune system then take 1-2 week break), Astragalus and certain other medicinal herbs, and Oscillococcinum (standard protocol for administration is 3 doses daily for three days) are likely to confer some protection as well. Ginger, taken as a tea, will warm up your innards.

'Homeopathy may have cure for Japanese encephalitis'

'Homeopathy may have cure for Japanese encephalitis'

TNN Jul 14, 2010, 03.04am IST

LUCKNOW: Japanese encephalitis (JE), the killer disease of east UP, could have a cure in homeopathy, claims Central Council for Research in Homeopathy (CCRH).

Initial findings of a study undertaken by the School of Tropical Medicine, Kolkata show that a homeopathic medicine — Belladonna — helps in checking the infection caused by JE.

Giving details, director general, CCRH, Prof C Nayak said: "Ultra-diluted solution of belladonna was administered to a JE infected chick embryo in a planned lab study. The results of the study showed a significant decrease in rate with which the cells were dying."

Second phase trials for the same study have also shown encouraging results, Prof Nayak said. ''Mice which were given the medicine were able to fight better.... the observations are being documented and would be published shortly,'' he said.

What adds to the hope is that the possibility of a cure has been acknowledged by the American journal of infectious diseases. The journal has published an article on the study being done by the team from School of Tropical Medicine, Kolkata. ''This study is a fitting reply to the critics and skeptics of homeopathy who have been denouncing the therapy as placebo,'' Prof Nayak told TOI.

City-based homeopathy consultant Dr Girish Gupta said it is only after human studies that one can think of real help to the needy children of the affected districts in UP. ''Officials say the council is working to formulate a protocol for human trials in homeopathy... this will also boost research in the stream,'' he said.

JE presents a significant risk to humans and animals, particularly in Southeast Asia (includingIndia), where around 50,000 cases and 10,000 deaths occur per year, mainly affecting children below 10 years.

Statistics reveal that about 50% of patients who develop Japanese encephalitis suffer from permanent neurological defects and 30% of them die from the disease. Further, the JE virus has shown a tendency to extend to other geographic areas.

Homeopathic remedy Lycopodium Clavatum offers new hope to cancer sufferers: Study

http://www.naturalnews.com/041501_lycopodium_clavatum_cancer_treatment_homeopathic_remedy.html

NaturalNews) One of the most exciting developments in the war on cancer has just been published in the Journal of Acupuncture and Meridian Studies, where new research shows that the homeopathic remedy, Lycopodium Clavatum (a spore bearing plant from the clubmoss family), has an anti-cancer effect on infected cells while protecting normal blood cells.

The report by the Boiron Laboratory in France and the University of Kalyani in India reveals that highly diluted Lycopodium Clavatum remedies (LC-5C and LC-15C) are capable of inducing 'apoptosis' (cellular death) in cervical cancer cells, signifying their possible use as a supportive medicine in cancer therapy.

The $200 billion dollar per year cancer industry is desperate to convince you that chemotherapy, radiation, toxic drugs and surgery are the only proven treatments for the disease, faced as it is today, with rising demand for complementary and alternative cancer medicines.

Not the first time: Other homeopathic remedies fight cancer too

This isn't the first time that a homeopathic remedy has been found to be effective against cancer. Two previous studies have produced similarly exciting results. Frenkel, M. et al. (2010) used ultra-diluted remedies of Phytolacca, Carcinosin, Conium, and Thuja on breast cancer cells and witnessed a deactivation of the cancer in a process called cytotoxicity. Another team, led by Toliopoulos IK, Simos Y, Bougiouklis D and Oikonomidis S (2013), discovered that certain homeopathic complexes were able to stimulate the anti-cancer activity of Natural Killer Cells (part of our immune system) in cancer patients.

With North America holding the second highest incidence rate of cancer in the world, closely followed by Western Europe, the discovery delivers the prospect of an existing, legal and affordable alternative to conventional treatments.

Dr Alexander Tournier, Executive Director of the London-based Homeopathy Research Institute (http://www.homeoinst.org) confirmed the validity of the Boiron/Kalyani report, stating:

"This study is very significant, performed by a well trained team with access to modern molecular biology techniques and with the support of Boiron - a leading homeopathic manufacturer worldwide - thus ensuring that the homeopathy part of the experiment is taken care of correctly."

Lycopodium Clavatum could work against other types of cancer

Although cervical cancer cells were used in the study, the findings suggest that Lycopodium Clavatum could help fight other types of cancer. Dr Tournier adds:

"These results found on [cervical] cells are potentially generalisable to other cancer cell lines, although the tests would have to be done.

"The fact that homeopathic medicines were shown to be effective at selectively killing cancer cells warrants further research, and offers the possibility that homeopathy could be useful for a wide variety of cancer patients in the future."

With Lycopodium Clavatum being widely available to purchase online, it could be tempting for cancer sufferers to self-medicate. However, this would be inadvisable until further research has confirmed its safety and efficacy in patients. Dr Tournier adds:

"Lycopodium is already available to the general public. It would be very easy to purchase from a homeopathic pharmacy. However, I would not recommend taking Lycopodium for cancer, even for cervical cancer. This study does not provide evidence that the homeopathic remedy will be effective in cancer patients. More research is required before such a homeopathic medicine can be used routinely in cancer treatment."

It is nevertheless, still possible to find experienced doctors who treat cancer patients using homeopathy with a high success rate. One of these is Dr. Spinedi's team at the Clinica Santa Croce (http://www.omeopatia.clinicasantacroce.ch) in Switzerland, who use many remedies, carefully selected for the particular complaint and circumstances of each patient.

Abstract

BACKGROUND:

Melanoma is the most aggressive form of skin cancer and the most rapidly expanding cancer in terms of worldwide incidence. Chemotherapeutic approaches to treat melanoma have had only marginal success. Previous studies in mice demonstrated that a high diluted complex derived from Calcarea carbonica (M8) stimulated the tumoricidal response of activated lymphocytes against B16F10 melanoma cells in vitro.

METHODS:

Here we describe the in vitro inhibition of invasion and the in vivo anti-metastatic potential after M8 treatment by inhalation in the B16F10 lung metastasis model.

RESULTS:

We found that M8 has at least two functions, acting as both an inhibitor of cancer cell adhesion and invasion and as a perlecan expression antagonist, which are strongly correlated with several metastatic, angiogenic and invasive factors in melanoma tumors.

CONCLUSION:

The findings suggest that this medication is a promising non-toxic therapy candidate by improving the immune response against tumor cells or even induce direct dormancy in malignancies.

Homeopathy, Physics, and Barcelona

6 Comments Posted by on June 7, 2013

So I’ve just returned from Barcelona, where the homeopathic research community congregated last weekend, for what proved to be a spectacular meeting of the minds at the 1st ever Homeopathic Research Institute Conference.  Scientists and researchers from all over the world presented their findings and theories, some of which – if true – could truly revolutionize our concepts of medicine and physics. They also managed to prove that homeopaths and scientists know how to have a really good time. Though honestly if you can’t have a good time in Barcelona then you really shouldn’t be allowed in.

I had the pleasure of presenting a short assembly (an unfinished piece) to a highly discerning audience. I was extraordinarily nervous about the prospects of presenting it to some of the most brilliant minds in homeopathy. Thankfully I received a warm if not glowing response from the audience. I received several requests to show the film in educational settings, and tonnes of people asked me where they could get their hands on my little video. Well I told them what I’m telling you – if you make a teeny weeny donation of $25 or more I’ll send you your very own link to the video which tells the story of a massive homeopathic profylaxis intervention in Cuba.  Just click here!

But of course, as is always the case with homeopathy, I’m left with more questions than answers. Luckily I’ve met some people who are willing to share their wealth of knowledge on this journey. A few of whom I was blessed to meet in Spain.

Martine Jourde, Gustavo Bracho, Ananda and Stephan Baumgartner

Martine Jourde, Gustavo Bracho, Ananda and Stephan Baumgartner

There were so many fascinating presentations. Being interested in the inner workings of the universe I was particularly interested in a peculiar effect that several scientists had observed in their work. Something they called transference. What is that you ask? Well more than one person claimed that remedies seem to affect living organisms from a distance. And to top of the Freaky voodoo-like effect, water placed next to a homeopathic remedy seems to take on the characteristics of the remedy. And guess what, it’s been observed repeatedly in laboratory situations.

Keynote speaker Dr. Stephan Baumgartner, a physicist from the university of Bern, presented a simple experiment he conducted on wheat seedlings. He placed wheat seedlings linearly next to a vial of homeopathic remedy, arsenicum album 45X which he potentised by hand in his lab. He discovered that the seedlings closest to the remedy showed a decrease in growth, and were affected to a greater extent than those furthest away from the remedy. This force could affect clinical and laboratory outcomes in relation to homeopathic research. The implications are that since physical contact with a remedy may not be required to feel its affects. So presumably, individuals in a placebo or control group could still be affected by the action of a remedy.

Dr. Gustavo Bracho, an immunologist from Cuba, presented a study about homeopathic dilutions of a plant extract with anti-tumoral properties. He discovered completely by accident, that if he stored water (for his control / placebo group) next to a homeopathic dilution of the extract, the water would take on the same properties as the remedy. He found that at specific potencies or dilutions, the homeopathic remedy would have a toxic effect on tumor cells. If the water was kept at a distance from the remedy it would not demonstrate the same effects. Hmm I wonder if this could be affecting homeopathic research by contaminating placebo and control groups.

Later on, while navigating the complex subway system in Barcelona I got to have an intimate chat with Dr. Baumgartner. He explained that this may be evidence of a field that affects living things – similar to a gravitational or magnetic field.  He started by explaining that Hahneman had envisioned such a field when he spoke of a spirit-like force in the Organon. He clarified that the Organon was poorly translated in English. Hahneman was not referring to a spiritual energy or soul, but rather something that could act invisibly like gravity or electricity.

I was concerned about the storage of my remedies. If these observations were correct, couldn’t they contaminate each other if stored in the same cabinet? He compared a remedy to a permanent magnet. The magnet can create a temporary effect on another object, however if that object already has it’s own magnetic field it cannot be changed by another magnetic field. Likewise if a remedy is already imprinted, it cannot be affected by another. We arrived at our destination and the topic of conversation rapidly changed as the spires of La Sagrada Familia rose before us. So word of warning to homeopaths, and homeopathic aficionados out there – make sure you keep your blank pellets and water far away from your remedies.

Homeopathy's Mystery: Not knowing how something works has nothing to do with whether it does.

Though we certainly must make determinations of what is and is not real, isn’t it best to do that based on experience and observation, rather than presumptions of what can and cannot be?
Homeopathy's Mystery: Not knowing how something works has nothing to do with whether it does.

One of the most common arguments against homeopathy says: It can’t work, therefore it doesn’t. Another throws out the challenge to explain how it works. Neither is a fair argument, since they do not care about evidence showing its efficacy, but only attempt to demean both homeopathy and the person who believes it works.

These same people do not place the same burden on their own belief in allopathy. Let’s pose that question to an anesthesiologist, Michael Alkire of the University of California School of Medicine, who is recognized as an expert in his field. Surely he knows the answer. His response is in a quote from the Encyclopedia of Consciousness:

How anesthesia works has been a mystery since the discovery of anesthesia itself.

Do those who keep attacking homeopathy care that no one understands how anesthesia works, either? Oddly enough, that never seems to come up. Why do they hold homeopathy to a different standard? Not knowing the mechanism behind how something works is hardly a legitimate argument that it doesn’t.
Spiderweb by Mike Baird. Creative Commons license.

Do we understand how electricity works? Outside of observations of its effects, we do not. It is a subatomic phenomenon, and that field is in extreme flux right. In a world in which things do not exist unless they are observed, as postulated by modern physics—and not having the slightest idea how this can possibly be—we cannot possibly claim to know how electricity works. So, is it legitimate to suggest that electricity cannot work because it consists of particles that, quite impossibly, exist only when they’re observed?

The real world is a very complex and mysterious place. Though we certainly must make determinations of what is and is not real, isn’t it best to do that based on experience and observation, rather than presumptions of what can and cannot be?

Did the sun suddenly come into being the day we humans were finally able to theorize a means by which it shines?

Must we give up anesthesia because we have no idea how it works?

How can rational people make the claim that homeopathy doesn’t work simply because we don’t know how?

The argument that it can’t work, therefore it doesn’t, is based solely on the idea that no one knows how it works, so it’s simply a corollary of the demand that how homeopathy works be explained—not a different argument.
The Allopathic View

What is going on here? If homeopathy simply didn’t work, why would the allopathic world attack it so strongly? Other alternative approaches to healthcare are accepted, and some even encouraged. How many doctors advise their patients to pray? Where’s the explanation of how that works?

Homeopathy’s concepts and holistic view of people and the human body are entirely counter to the allopathic approach. It requires a complete rethinking of the nature of health and medical care. Is it not, therefore, only reasonable to test it on its own terms?

Most trials of homeopathy have been done as if the remedies were equivalent to allopathic drugs. That most assuredly is not the case. In homeopathy, one cannot apply a single remedy on the simple basis of a single symptom or diagnosis. Each case must be taken on an individual basis. The remedies that are effective in different people with the same diagnosis may not be the same, especially in chronic illnesses. In fact, they most likely won’t be.

Rather than viewing symptoms as the problem and trying to suppress them, homeopaths see them as attempts to heal. Until recently, allopaths treated fever as if it were the problem, so they routinely advised taking drugs to bring it down. The reality is that fever is one of the body’s primary means of trying to attack infections, by creating a heated environment in which microorganisms cannot survive. Even with this awareness, allopaths still often tell worried parents to give drugs to bring down fevers that are not high enough to be dangerous.

Allopaths view symptoms as if they were the disease. Thus, the usual goal of mainstream medicine’s treatments is to suppress them. The long term view is generally not taken. The connections that homeopaths see between common drugs and disease are ignored and denied, until the evidence can no longer be suppressed.
Allopathy’s Suppression of Homeopathy
Spiderweb by France House Hunt. Creative Commons license.

Allopathy applies its method of suppression to homeopathy. The approach seems to start with the view that the existence of homeopathy is a problem, rather than a symptom of a medical system that’s gone awry. Therefore, much as all other symptoms are treated, the method of dealing with homeopathy is an attempt to suppress it.

What does mainstream medicine fear from homeopathy? If it truly can’t work, then why try to suppress it? Won’t it simply fade away if it’s ineffective? Clearly, people must experience benefits, especially when homeopathic treatment generally requires money out of pocket, as it’s rarely covered by either insurance or national health plans.

Rather than denying the truth of stories by people who claim they’ve been healed by homeopathy—especially those whose conditions are considered untreatable or irreversible in the allopathic world—why not do large population studies, rather than placebo and randomly controlled trials? Though such trials are currently called the gold standard of science, they are far from the only technique available—and there is only the claim of their effectiveness behind them, not any proof.
Spiderweb by Erik Schepers. Creative Commons license.

The only conclusive test is experience, the results of large numbers of people over a long period of time. Within modern medicine’s allopathy, we have only to look at the disasters of the drug Vioxx, which killed tens of thousands, and hormone replacement therapy, which has proven to cause the very diseases it had been purported to prevent. In spite of legions of placebo and randomly controlled trials trotted out by modern healthcare, the truth is that those allopathic treatments have failed miserably. If anything is responsible for the unnecessary iatrogenic deaths of thousands and millions, it is the reliance on placebo and random controlled trials, the so-called gold standard of modern evidence-based medicine.

Those people who wish to demand that homeopathy be explained should first get their own house in order. Even if an explanation for how anesthesia works is discovered, it won’t resolve this issue. The fact will remain that those who have demanded an explanation for homeopathy do not make the same demands of their own medical paradigm—and that says it all.

The real issue for those people isn’t that homeopathy makes no sense to them. The real issue is that its very existence is perceived as a threat. It’s either a challenge to their perception of how the world works or it’s seen as a risk to their profession.
